Universal Magazines Opens up for newsXpress

Mark Darton
Mark Darton of Universal Magazines

We were grateful to Mark Darton, Circulation Director of Universal Magazines, for spending the day with newsXpress members at our New South Wales member’s meeting yesterday.  Mark presented on the newsXpress / Universal relationship and outlined how newsXpress members can make the move of the new commercial opportunity and the new commercial arrangements.

The category insights will be particularly helpful to newsXpress members as they learn of placement opportunities for driving sales.

Mark’s presentation was followed by an open Q&A session with Mark fielding newsXpress member questions along with Dale Smith, Retail Channel Manager for Network Services.  This was the first time a publisher and magazine distributor engaged in such an open forum with members of a newsagency marketing group.

newsXpress looks forward to hosting more sessions like this in the future.

newsXpress at Brisbane GNS Market Fair

nxp-gnsbne.JPGWe have had a terrific time at the GNS Market Fair in Brisbane this past weekend. In addition to meeting plenty of existing newsXpress members, we got to meet with some excellent prospective members.

Supporting the Market Fairs and GNS has been important to us. GNS plays a vital role in the newsagency channel not only because it is owned by newsagents but because it is our key stationery supplier.  Supporting GNS shows we are supporting newsagents.

We will have good news in the coming weeks of newsagents joining newsXpress thanks to our Market Fair participation.

The photo shows just part of our stand – where we were showing off some of our seasonal collateral.

History and Heraldry Basket Building Opportunity

historyheraldry.JPGWhile retailers often complain about spinners, the space they take and the views of the retail space they block, the spinners from history and heraldry are successful in newsXpress locations –delivering excellent results in a variety of retail situations.

We love it when we see a product range work so well in so many situations. This is the case with the History and Heraldry range.

Thanks to the newsXpress relationship we are able to help members achieve the maximum from this opportunity.

With 125 preferred suppliers now, newsXpress is well placed to deliver the very best deals for newsagents. We back these deals with genuine value through strategies and tactics for turning the deals into sales at the cash register.

Happy newsagents

We have been fortunate to mix with several newsXpress members over recent weeks at industry functions and trade shows. It has been a thrill to meet up with happy, positive and proactive newsXpress members at these events.

We are often greeted with news of a success story with a newsXpress promotion or some other good news. It’s a thrill to hear these and to see the joy of success showing on their faces.

With so much doom and gloom being reported about retail in the media at the moment, newsXpress is happy to be providing good news story opportunities.

The newsXpress Darren Lockyer Difference

darren-lockyer.jpgBefore Darren Lockyer Life of a Legend from ACP Magazines went on sale, newsXpress provided its members with an exclusive pre-sale flyer, enabling them to capture sales in advance.

This smart move gave newsXpress stores a point of difference against other newsagencies and retail outlets. It meant they could capture a sale and take payment before the one-shot hit the shelves.

This is a tactic newsXpress has used to great effect in the past. It’s a perfect example of the newsXpress difference in the magazine space, a difference which is promoted with pride throughout our businesses.

newsXpress Top Ryde City Finds Room for Lovatts Titles

lovatts-toprydecity.JPGnewsXpress Top Ryde City is chasing sales growth of Lovatts crossword and puzzle titles by finding space for a second display outside the crossword section.

This additional space allocation for Lovatts titles is sure to drive sales based on the experiences already seen by Lovatts and newsXpress.

While it can be a challenge in some locations to find extra pockets in the women’s magazine section, the work is soon justified once the sales numbers are in and growth is seen to have been achieved.

In finding the space in the photo, newsXpress Top Ryde City is following the recommended approach by Lovatts and newsXpress.

Promoting the newsXpress Phone Card with Foreign Newspapers

phone-water2.JPGPromoting the newsXpress phone card with foreign newspapers is proving to be a smart move for newsXpress stores.  This placement promotes the phonecard to a marketplace which regularly uses phonecards.

We have had reports of customers saying that they have cut their phone bill by more than $500 in a year by switching.  The newsXpress phonecard is a good value phone card since it has no extra fees and charges which you see on many other cards.  This builds consumer trust and this is important as it is the newsXpress brand on the card.

We encourage newsXpress members to promote the newsXpress phonecard with foreign newspapers and at other high impact locations in-store.
