Newsagency marketing group newsXpress national conference about to start
newsXpress members from around Australia are heading to the Gold Coast for our second national conference this year. At the conference, being held this Tuesday at the Royal Pines Resort, we are set for a busy day plus a couple of dinners. This will be as much about business building sessions as it will be about networking with other newsagents in the newsXpress family.
A feature of the conference will be practical workshops with a CPA, a lease expert, retail experts and a product buying expert – these will provide practical learning opportunities for newsXpress members. We are also hosting training in in-store engagement with a new service to be offered through newsXpress members under a brand we have trade marked.
The supplier trade display will introduce new good-margin product opportunities for newsXpress members. The products on offer will help some members enjoy an even more successful Christmas 2013.
So, we’re excited for the opportunities we’ll see this week and the friendships we will renew.
newsXpress appoints National Sales Manager
newsXpress is thrilled to announce that Peter Francis is joining our team as National Sales Manager of newsXpress from today.
Formerly National Sales Manager with For Arts Sake and prior to that with John Sands, Peter brings to this senior management role at newsXpress excellent newsagency rooftop acquisition experience along with an energy and positivity for the future of newsagencies from which we are certain to benefit.
Working from a Sydney base and reporting direct to the Directors of newsXpress, Peter’s remit is to bring on newsXpress members nationally.
Coinciding with the recruitment of Peter Francis to this role newsXpress is undertaking a series of marketing initiatives to introduce our enhanced model to the newsagency channel. We will share details of a series of marketing events and fresh marketing literature in the coming weeks.
There won’t be a newsagent in Australia who has not heard from newsXpress at least four times between now and mid October. Each communication will of itself potentially add value to newsagency businesses – we are showing off our point of difference in a practical way.
The ideal newsXpress member is a newsagent keen to grow their business beyond the traditional to a model of strong gross profit and best-practice operational efficiency … and to do this while helping all involved in the business to enjoy it more.
Please join with us in making Peter Francis welcome to the newsXpress family and help him to unlock for newsXpress member growth as we grow our own way.
newsXpress stores loving the car in a can opportunity
newsXpress members are reporting excellent sales of the car in a can, a newsXpress preferred supplier initiative that is helping newsXpress members play in a unique space in the marketplace – attracting shoppers as well as getting existing shoppers to spend more in the business on this unqiue gift … a perfect Father’s Day gift for a Dad who likes gadgets.
This product brightens the store!
Right across the country in all sorts of newsXpress locations we are hearing of success of the car in a can!
Exclusive Hallmark AFL promotion ignites newsXpress stores!!
newsXpress newsagency marketing group members are loving the exclusive Hallmark AFL card promotion. This latest display is from newsXpress Hallmark where one in-store Collingwood fan has set their beloved team up to be ahead of arch rival Carlton on the scoreboard. This positioning of Collingwood against Carlton is contrary to newsXpress corporate policy and not supported by the group. newsXpress will be dealing with the recalcitrant employee promoting the dasatardly Collingwood.
We’re having fun with this exclusive AFL greeting card promotion from our friends at Hallmark.
newsXpress preferred supplier sticks to newsXpress exclusive offer
A newsagent who had recently left newsXpress called our National Account Manager at Big Balloon to place a Beanie Boo order. Big Balloon advised the store that they could no longer honour the newsXpress exclusive discounted pricing offer now that they have left newsXpress. It was also mentioned to this store that they will need to open a new account and go on pro forma for 3 orders.
We are told the newsagent was disappointed, claiming they were lead to believe that the group they had joined could get the same offer. This is not the case.
Big Balloon has no other national relationship with any other group outside of newsXpress.
Big Balloon made it clear to this store that the newsXpress relationship is paramount and that the offer integrity will remain for newsXpress members only . We share this to highlight to members that by acting as a group this is the type of support we can get, it also highlights that Big Balloon are towing the line and acknowledging the relationship forged with newsXpress.

In addition to a series of category based awards, the major award, newsXpress 2013 Retail Store of the year, will win a trip to attend the National Retail Federation Conference in New York in january 2014. Well in advance of the winter chills hitting many parts of Australia, newsXpress pitched a range of product ideas and marketing initiatives to newsXpress members to help prepare them for marketing opportunities in driving business performance.

Promoting Top Model to a younger demographic
newsXpress members are enjoying terrific success promoting the Top Model range of products in-store.
The feedback is that the shoppers for these items are also purchasing other items including magazines … making them efficient in terms of basket depth and margin dollars banked.
Finding items like Top Model at competitive newsXpress member pricing is just part of the strategy. Insights that help turn the investment into cash is the key. This is where newsXpress members make money from insights and advice, it’s where newsXpress excels and what attracts newsagents to join our group.
Newsagency marketing group helps newsagents promote Christmas in July
newsXpress has provided members of its newsagency marketing group with collateral promoting Christmas in July.
this exclusive to newsXpress marketing collateral has been provided as part of our regular marketing support for members – demonstrating support for non-traditional seasonal opportunities for newsXpress members. Also, provided at no additional cost.
Newsagents are wary of promises made and not delivered. newsXpress members, through additional collateral, marketing opportunities and business management support have regular access to more than the group has promised.
Each week, in a structured and professional member communication, we share opportunities and assistance with members for their decision on engagement. This Christmas in July material is another example – engagement is optional and has no cost.
newsXpress is a strong vibrate marketing group assisting newsagents to grow better businesses.
newsXpress features in UK retail review
newsXpress Southland is featuring at UK website Better Retailing, the website for enterprising independent retailers. The interview and story focus on our new corporate store, newsXpress Southland where we are playing considerably beyond the traditional newsagency model.
newsXpress Southland is our third corporate store and our most innovative yet. Some of what we are doing at Southland is already being embraced by newsXpress members. Other innovations will be discussed in the second half of this year once we have data on performance.
Being covered by a respected UK independent retailer website is terrific kudos for newsXpress and everyone involved in Southland. It holds our innovation up on a respected world stage for others to learn about and consider for their businesses.
newsXpress Southland, and indeed all of our corporate stores, are part of what is different about newsXpress. We genuinely innovate in our corporate stores and share the results of this innovation with our members. The result benefits all.

newsXpress launches training videos
As announced at the newsXpress national conference last week, we have completed production on ten new training videos. These are the next step of an expanded training suite of services from newsXpress for newsXpress members, delivering access to a growing resource you will be able to use to share with your team members and to use yourself. Our feeling is that video based training will be appreciated because of the flexibility you will have in tapping into the resources as and when it suits you.
Produced by us in house, these latest videos reflect a new skill set within the newsXpress team. Business roundtable focuses on newsXpress member business growth
On the day after our national conference in Melbourne last week, one of the optional activities was a half-day business round table discussion in the boardroom of our head office.
Here, twelve newsXpress members got to talk about business, their businesses and retail in general.
This was a practical and confidential business discussion designed to get more newsXpress members sharing with and helping each other. It worked a treat with heartfelt sharing in a confidential environment, providing opportunities for taking on new ideas and opportunities.
That we were able to bring together a diverse group of newsXpress members was appreciated as everyone has a different perspective to contribute to the overall discussion.
This is another newsXpress initiative – helping members more effectively and valuable network with each other without it costing anything and without suppliers pressuring members to spend money. This was pure business … and opportunity warmly embraced and appreciated.
newsXpress members love Melbourne retail tour
The day after the newsXpress national conference in Melbourne last week, a group of newsXpress members and a team from our head office visited a range of retail stores in Melbourne including newsXpress stores – checking out new retail trends and seeing how some are growing their business performance through non-traditional shop floor engagement. In all we had three groups touring.
This newsXpress hosted post-conference tour was another benefit flowing from the national conference … letting newsXpress members from outside Melbourne see businesses we think are making good moves and learning from the work they are doing.
The tour was all about chasing above average business performance – making your newsagency business more valuable as a result. By providing in-store context for some of what was covered at the conference we were able to help participating newsXpress members see new opportunities for their businesses without having to spend big on structural change.
newsXpress announces confidential business performance workshop
newsXpress has announced details to members of a confidential half-day business performance workshop, to be held the day following our national conference.
This closed-door session will see a group of newsXpress members share with each other business performance and other data for open discussion on performance and exploration of opportunities.
The purpose of the confidential session is to have members challenge each other, to uncover new opportunities and to take newsXpress member networking to a deeper and more engaged level.
Participation is free and only available to newsXpress members. The event is being held in the boardroom of our office. Here is the invitation shares with newsXpress members:

Moderated by Mark Fletcher, this will be a confidential under the hood look at the performance of the participating businesses, to learn what we can from each other, and to challenge ourselves. This session will start at 10am and end by 1pm. Participation is free Confidentiality and openness are important for this session to work.
