Great printer ink deals in Mackay

nx_mackay_hotink.JPGnewsXpress Village in Mackay, Queensland is promoting the latest Hot Ink! offer with a full page advertisement in the Daily Mercury newspaper.  newsXpress has worked with newsXpress Village on the creative for the ad, developing a variation to our successful two-page flyer.  Developing creative like this is part of how we help newsXpress members promote locally and do so in a way which connects with national campaigns.

Landlords invite newsXpress into their centres

shopfront.jpgnewsXpress is receiving more and more invitations to consider locations in existing and new shopping centres around Australia.

With a footprint of close to 160 locations nationally, attractive businesses, a commitment to professional retailing, national TV and print advertising and good compliance principles, landlords see newsXpress as a national brand they want in their centres.

In response to approaches, newsXpress has developed a set of principles and guidelines for handling invitations from landlords.

  • We do not approach landlords in centres where there is an existing newsagent.
  • We only consider locations which are on the open market.
  • There are instances where we have helped existing newsagents lift their businesses and stay in a centre by providing support services and other guidance to lift their offer and retain their business.
  • We ensure that a newsagent already serving the centre is given the opportunity to open the newsXpress location offered to us by the landlord – we have helped existing newsagents expand in this way.
  • Using our professional lease negotiator, we pursue the best possible terms for the business.
  • We invite existing newsXpress members to consider taking up available tenancy offers.
  • next, we invite non newsXpress newsagents to take up the new tenancy offer.
  • If these steps do not uncover a good candidate, we may market the opportunity more widely or invite the landlord to see suitable tenants directly.

newsXpress goes to extraordinary lengths to ensure newsagents covering an existing location and first bite at a new opportunity. There are excellent instances in our history where this has worked well for the newsagent and the landlord.

Bonus round of members meetings scheduled

newsXpress has added another round of member meetings to the cycle planned for 2009. This is response to the excellent feedback from the round of member meetings just concluded. To be held in late April, this next round of member meetings will further develop our theme for 2009 of standards, introduce new and exclusive product offers for newsXpress newsagents and open for discussion business management initiatives.

newsXpress is committed to helping its members deep into the back room as well as in the body of the shop. This is why we include operational topics in our member meeting agendas, so that our members can talk with each other and learn about best practice in areas of their business.

Melbourne members meeting full

nx_vigmtg_feb09.JPGOur meeting of Victorian newsXpress members yesterday filled the room at the Malvern Valley Golf Club.  We had a terrific discussion about newsXpress strategies and offers and an excellent open forum session where we discussed a myriad of topics.  As we found in Sydney and Brisbane earlier this week, our members are the best source of ideas for newsXpress to research and consider.

Member meetings such as yesterday’s in Victoria demonstrate newsXpress’ commitment to transparency and how we go about putting the needs of our members first.

Advertising for a new Business Development Manager

We have placed an ad online at Seek yesterday for a new Business Development Manager in Victoria. As the ad says, practical newsagency experience is essential to this vital role for building stronger newsXpress newsagencies in Victoria. Other key skills are good clear communication, excellent organizational skills and a commitment to staying out of industry politics.

Full-house at NSW members meeting

nsw_membmeet.jpgOur full-house NSW members meeting yesterday was a busy few hours. Taking the form of an open forum, newsXpress members, prospective members and our team reviewed recent marketing and discussed plans for Easter, Calendars, Diaries and our next Ink promotion. Over several hours including a working lunch we also discussed several newsXpress initiated innovations which aim to leverage our success into better commercial outcomes for our members.

Discipline was at the heart of this round of member meetings. newsXpress is committed to helping its members achieve greater unity around a common goal and this starts with our businesses looking, feeling and acting great.

Member meetings like yesterday in Sydney are a key opportunity for members to share stories as well as influence the direction we take as a group.

With a strong representation of the newsXpress brand in NSW/ACT, we are poised to move from being seen as another brand of newsagency to being newsXpress and standing for all that makes up the value of the newsXpress brand.

The right marketing group for your newsagency

Our How to choose a marketing group for your newsagency paper has been updated.  We have received excellent feedback from the first version off this document and this has encouraged us to develop this new version.  The opening paragraphs position the purpose of the document:

Supanews, Nextra, The Lucky Charm, Newspower and newsXpress are the five marketing and or buying groups for newsagents in Australia at the time of writing this report. Each of these groups is different, even more so that they themselves might have you believe.

The differences between newsagency marketing groups are not as evident as they could be, making the choice challenging for newsagents contemplating joining a marketing group.

Too often, newsagents find out why a marketing group is not for them once they have signed an agreement and are locked in for years without any way out.

National advertising helps newsXpress newsagents

nxp_blogjan2009.jpgnewsXpress has undertaken more national advertising, across four separate campaigns, over the last year than any newsagency marketing group.

Our national advertising on TV and print, drives traffic to newsXpress newsagencies and reinforces the value of our national brand to suppliers and landlords. This focus on national advertising is behind the latest ad we are running in newsagency channel trade journals.

Our in-house creative team has developed the ad to reflect the value of our advertising and the different approach we take to getting our message across.

Trent Shields, newsXpress’ national Marketing Manager, felt that ads to newsagents ought to reflect the vitality and fresh approach of the group. Watch out in the Queensland Newsagent and National Newsagent for these new ads from newsXpress.

Sunbeam espresso machine prize for Valentine’s Day

val_coffee.jpgBuy a Hallmark Valentine’s Day card at a participating newsXpress newsagency between now and February 14 and go in the draw to win a Sunbeam Espresso Machine. There is one Espresso machine on offer per participating newsXpress store – great odds for a great gift this Valentine’s Day. As the posters in-store say, Brew a little love … thanks to Hallmark and newsXpress.

newsXpress is proud to be part of this national campaign by Hallmark.  Each store will conduct its own draw and call winners to let them know of their success with Hallmark and newsXpress.

Local prizes have been a successful marekting tool for our newsagency marketing group and are, in our view, a another reason our year on year (same store) greeting card sales growth is better than other newsagents.

Second online member meeting for newsagents

newsXpress is announcing today a second member meeting for 2009 – an online meeting on Thursday February 5 at 3pm. The 3pm start will enable this to be a national meeting, covering all time zones. The meeting will preview the remainder of quater one 2009 activity, present several newsXpress exclusive product deals and facilitate a general business discussion. Access to the meeting is open to newsXpress members only. To participate, you will need a computer with broadband and access to a phone for a toll free call for the audio part of the meeting.

Our online member meetings are in addition to our face to face capital city and regional member meetings and in-store visits made with members on a regular basis. newsXpress places high importance in getting like-minded newsagents together to talk about business and collectively develop strategies for member businesses and the group as a whole.

Making money out of minor seasons

newsxpress-050.jpgnewsXpress Toowong along with several other newsXpress members created a themed promotional area for Monday’s Australia Day celebration. The simple application of visual merchandising components from a newsXpress sourced supplier coupled with appropriate product, giftlines and decorations capitalised on the sales opportunity.

Minor seasons are not as glamourous nor as well supported by suppliers but are typically easy to set up with product already on stock in store.

The team behind newsXpress

nx_team_jan28_09.jpgWe brought the newsXpress team together yesterday to discuss plans for 2009, standards around our brand and look at several soon to be released member offers.  From marketing to merchandise, newsagency business development to board level, the day was an excellent opportunity to continue to evolve the culture of newsXpress and remind ourselves of our commitment to deliver measureable value and rewards to the newsagents and newsagencies which we serve.

We have a skilled and committed team working for newsXpress from the front line through to back office processes.  This team is a tremendous point of difference for newsXpress and what it can achieve with member newsagents.
