Engaging with Red Nose Day

newsXpress is pleased to continue its leading engagement with Red Nose Day for SIDS Kids as a national retail partner having pioneered this for the newsagency channel some years ago.

Having supported this charity for many years newsXpress members are well established in offering fund raising products for sale and supporting the SIDS charity in a variety of other ways.

newsXpress supports other charities and community causes through they year at the corporate level in addition to the wonderful local community work of many newsXpress members.

We take community engagement seriously.

Socially engaged newsXpress members

Many in the newsXpress family connect with their community is truly wonderful and valuable ways. Take Brendan and Rita Mason from newsXpress Sunbury Square who are this week hosting some young indigenous footballers in their home.

Here is a video of some of the players talking about their football experiences and what they mean…

Here are some thoughts Brendan had to share:

Some of these guys have grown up in really rough circumstances but Ian McAdam, my niece Cassandra and others are trying show them that life can be better. Football, aussie rules and in the future other codes, is the glue that is bringing them together and is used to encourage them to put effort into their education. As a nation we do so much for worthy causes overseas but little exposure is given to those in our own country who need help and guidance. Here is an opportunity to influence a generation of indigenous Australians and show them that life can be positive.

Yes, we have some wonderfully community engaged members in newsXpress.

Supporting Red Nose Day

newsXpress is pleased to be supporting  Red Nose Day again, continuing a tradition of several years.  newsXpress locations will be selling Red Nose merchandise and embracing promotional opportunities around the Red Nose awareness campaign for SIDS and Kids.  SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and to supporting bereaved families.

Remembering Anzac Day

last-post.jpgThanks to a wonderful mix of newsXpress preferred suppliers, newsXpress members have access to an excellent range of gifts – gifts like the Silent Soldier.  This is an ideal gift for someone commemorating Anzac Day.  Some retailers like to keep it for themselves and use it in a remembrance display at this time of the year.

Silent Soldiers, from preferred supplier Jasnor, is a commemorative range of hand crafted collectible figures inspired by the ANZAC spirit.

Today, we remember the ANZAC soldiers and indeed all soldiers who fought that we here and in other countries may live with freedom and democracy.  As local, community focused, business people, today we pause to appreciate what we have and that this was hard fought for.

shop-local.JPGnewsXpress is proud of its leadership in SHOP LOCAL campaigns on behalf of newsXpress newsagents. Members of the newsXpress newsagency marketing group benefit from the message included in marketing collateral which promotes the local connections of newsXpress member businesses with the local community.

The latest example of our engagement in SHOP LOCAL campaign is the promotion included with our March 2011 HOT ink! flier. We thanked shoppers for supporting their LOCAL newsXpress store and reinforced that shopping locally at newsXpress is beneficial.

Regular reinforcement of the SHOP LOCAL message and proving the personal and community economic value of shopping locally are important elements of this campaign.

newsXpress understands the importance of the local community connection and is pleased to lead the newsagency channel in integrating this message in its marketing campaigns.

Helping to raise funds for breast cancer research

newsXpress received a wonderful note from Annette Sym, author of the Symply Too Good cookbooks, thanking us for our support of her efforts to raise money for breast cancer reseatch.

Here is what Annette had to say:

Thank you and NewsXpress so much for providing us with your fabulous NewsXpress black enviro bags, caps and water bottles for our Symply Food, Symply Fit, Symply Pink breast cancer fundraising event on the 22nd June 2010. The first 100 people who booked to attend our event received their wonderful gift bags on the night, which contained a fantastic array of donated goodies including your caps and water bottles, and we could see that everyone was absolutely thrilled to receive them. We were also able to auction one of the gift bags on the night, which generated further fundraising. Thank you for being so generous and helping to make it such a special night – we greatly appreciate it – and a big thank you from Annette for all your support.

Please find attached our Sponsor’s Thank You page which was given to all 200 attendees, as well as being shown on our large presentation screen during the night.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that the fundraising goal set out in December 2009 has officially been reached! Due to all the amazing people who volunteered their help, time and resources we have raised over $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. As you are aware our first event, held in February 2010, was the Train Like a Girl Breast Cancer Challenge and then last week, Symply Food, Symply Fit, Symply Pink! The two events combined have raised a total of:

$10, 510.50 !!!

Without the spirit and generosity of our community, this goal would never have been achieved.

Finally, on behalf of Jen’s sister Michelle and family – THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

Thank you for helping us to make a difference
