The Best Loyalty Program in the Newsagency Channel

The newsXpress Magazine Club Card is undoubtedly the best and most successful loyalty program in the newsagency channel.  For years, the newsXpress have been the only group wide loyalty marketing offer in the newsagency channel.

Since its release in 2005, this consumer  loyalty program has given newsXpress and newsXpress member locations a tremendously valuable point of difference.

Guiding customers to perform above average, the Magazine Club Card promotion delivers valuable incremental business in return for a valuable shopper reward.

From business performance data, we can see the value of the newsXpress Magazine Club Card program not only in magazine sales but also in other sales reported by newsXpress members.

Congratulations to newsXpress members for leading the newsagency channel in delivering genuine shopper loyalty rewards.

Smurfs hit Noosa Heads

smurfs-noosa.JPGnewsXpress Noosa Heads is promoting a new range of Smurfs toys and collectibles, connecting their business with the avalanche of publicity which to hit soon as the new Smurfs movie marketing campaign kicks in – and a massive campaign it is shaping up to be.

newsXpress is leading the newsagency channel on interacting with marketing and sales opportunities tied to the new Smurf movie.  Our stores have had access to an excellent range of traditional and new style Smurf products.  Our engagement with Smurfs products is certain to drive traffic and basket efficiency.

The Smurf range at newsXpress Noosa Heads has been placed to drive excellent impulse engagement and to show early on in the campaign that this is a go to location for all things Smurfs.

Cars 2 Display at newsXpress Bairnsdale

cars2-bairnsdale.JPGnewsXpress Bairnsdale has been running an excellent display promoting products associated with the popular cars 2 movie, especially the Hallmark recordable storybook based around the cars 2 brand.

Using collateral sourced through the local cinema and displaying an excellent range of product, the display is an excellent demonstration of promoting products from a range of categories and suppliers around a common brand.  newsXpress is uniquely positioned to help newsXpress members do this.

Well done newsXpress Bairnsdale on a terrific display.

newsXpress Strategies Drive Success For The Sticker Family Product

sticker-people.JPGShoppers are drawn to the pull up banner promoting the My Family Stickers from The Sticker Family like bees to a honey pot.  This is the best analogy ever … the pull up banner really is a honey pot.

One newsXpress member watched interaction over a one hour period last Sunday and in that time eight groups of people approached the display and three of these purchased stickers immediately.  Two others asked questions and said they would be back after talking to other family members.  All eight groups were walking through the shopping mall through the hour long observation and approached the newsXpress outlet because of the tactically placed pull up banner.  The engagement tactics used by the newsXpress member were what helped drive immediate and future sales.

We know that purchasing these stickers is often a shared, family, experience. This is why helping family members make the choice is an important and valuable part of the process.  newsXpress has recommended to members a suite of tools and tactics with which to drive family involvement and ensure excellent sales as a result.

The exceptional sales being driven in newsXpress stores with the My Family Stickers range is proof of the newsXpress difference in action and working to the commercial benefit not only of newsXpress members but also for our partner supplier – The Sticker Family.   We appreciate their help and support and the assistance they have given to enable newsXpress stores to lead the channel in sales of this product.

What a tremendous success story!

The newsXpress approach to and success with The Sticker Family is an excellent case study for newsagents who are comparing newsagency marketing groups.  The newsXpress success shows off a commercially astute and valuable point of difference.  It shows that newsXpress actions speak louder than the words of others.  Yes, we are very proud of what we have achieved and continued to achieve with this excellent product.

newsXpress Launceston … Bold and Noticeable

launceston-signage.JPGnewsXpress Launceston has making an impact in town with this bold newsXpress signage on the front of their newsagency.

The newsagency business underneath the signage is an equally strong promotion of all that newsXpress stands for: great service, excellent product knowledge, local engagement and good shopping deals.

newsXpress is thrilled to have the newsXpress Launceston team on the newsXpress team.

newsXpress to Host Local Area Marketing Workshops

newsXpress is running Local Area Marketing Workshops for members in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane starting later this month.

These face to face workshops will share practical information and training on how to use the exclusive collateral created by newsXpress for use by newsXpress members and how to run a range of different local area marketing campaigns.  They will also provide excellent opportunities for newsXpress members to workshop their own local area marketing ideas.

The workshops will challenge participants to step out of their comfort zone and reach beyond traditional newsagency marketing.  They workshops are not for the feint hearted.

This training is another way newsXpress is helping members get more value from their newsXpress membership and showing that we go way beyond the traditional newsagency marketing group offering.

Each session is expected to run for three hours.  Numbers will be limited to ensure that the maximum opportunity is available for personal and business specific engagement.

Each workshop will cover topics such as:

  • How to choose the right local area marketing campaign for your business
  • How to modify the newsXpress provided marketing collateral
  • How to engage your entire team
  • How to work with outside parties such as schools and community groups
  • How to measure results
  • How newsXpress can help

A good local area marketing campaign delivers a deeper connection.  The new toolkit from newsXpress helps members  more easily make this connection.

The details of the workshops will be announced to newsXpress members later this week.

Landlords Appreciate newsXpress Shopping Centre Landlord Campaign

Shopping centre landlords are appreciating the latest communication and engagement campaign which newsXpress started a few weeks ago.

With many newsXpress locations in shopping centres, newsXpress leadership created a carefully considered and rounded communication campaign to help landlords understand the value of a newsXpress tenancy.

Landlords and Centre Managers are responding with appreciation for the deeper understanding and opportunities for enhanced engagement with newsXpress and newsXpress members.

Our exclusive national TV and print advertising campaigns demonstrate the investment newsXpress is making to drive traffic to shopping centres.  This alone separates newsXpress from other newsagency marketing groups.  By investing to bring in traffic we are being seen as different and more valuable to any other newsagency marketing group.

newsXpress is not stopping at TV and print to drive traffic.  We have taken landlords into our confidence and shared details of other newsXpress exclusive activity which is driving traffic and building businesses of which landlords can be proud.

It is easy for a newsagency marketing group to say that they have a good relationship with landlords and another thing entirely to walk the walk and consistently deliver a valuable and mutually respectful relationship.  This is the newsXpress difference.  Our members see it every day.  Actions do speak louder than words.

nxinstore-jul11.jpgnewsXpress provided members with our In-Store Offers newsletter for July late last week, in time for mailing with customer accounts for the end of the month.  This latest marketing newsletter promotes our Facebook competition, the latest issue of better Homes and Gardens, our forthcoming national TV campaign as well as the value of shopping with newsXpress.

This newsletter is customisable by newsXpress members so that it presents as a local newsletter from a local business.

Many newsXpress members distribute the newsletter by mail, on a stand at the front of their newsagency, via customer bags, delivery to local businesses and by handing them to customers with purchases.

The In-Store Offers newsletter is valuable able professional platform through which to promote the business.  It is exclusive to newsXpress.

newsXpress Redcliffe Enjoys Great Gift Sales

redc_gifts.JPGnewsXpress Redcliffe has been growing gift sales since the store oepened a year and a half ago.  Today, the gift department makes an important and sizeable contribution to sales and GP for the business.  Buying from newsXpress preferred suppliers and tapping into exclusive newsXpress offers, the Redcliffe team has built a solid gift offer based on the mix of cards selected by shoppers.  Using card sales data to drive gift buying is paying off with excellent growth – way above industry average.

While many newsagents talk of tough trading conditions, newsXpress Redcliffe is enjoying success by embracing newsXpress opportunities.  Their success shows the commercial value of embracing newsXpress preferred supplier opportunities.

newsXpress pioneered the use of detailed card sales data analysis to guide gift purchases.  It has had exclusive access to caption sales data with which to guide product purchase choices by members.

newsXpress Knox Stocks Up For HOT ink! Sale

inksale1.JPGnewsXpress Knox, at Knox City Shopping Centre in Victoria, has stocked up for the latest newsXpress HOT ink! promotion.  Sales have been excellent.  Shoppers are bringing in their flyer to purchase their choice of brand name ink from the flyer … many have commented that the prices are better than nearby outlets such as Dick Smith, JB HiFi, Harvey Norman and Australia Post.

The newsXpress HOT ink! campaign is key to driving new traffic to newsXpress businesses.  It combats the consumer view that newsagencies are expensive.  newsXpress is not expensive.  It is the value place to shop.  Delivering value prices on brand name ink and toner is just one way newsXpress helps its members make this important consumer pitch.

newsXpress Promoting Facebook Community

nx-facebook.jpgnewsXpress stores are promoting our national Facebook page with this in-store poster.

This in-store poster promotion is in addition to promotion of our Facebook presence on paper and plastic bags, catalogues, marketing flyers and other marketing collateral produced by newsXpress.

The Facebook promotional flyer is on the newsXpress website for members to access.

Planning for the newsXpress National TV Campaign

Representatives of newsXpress and of the Nine Network met last week to commence planning for the first of our national TV commercials promoting newsXpress.

Running nationally, these TV commercials will offer a consistent message and call to action for all newsXpress businesses.

The commercials will further unify the newsXpress network around common product offers and pricing. They will help pitch newsXpress as a value based shopping experience, differentiating our retail network from other newsagencies. This will be vitally important as further changes are experienced in newsagency product mix and pricing.

Ten new members for newsXpress

Newsagency marketing group newsXpress announced the details of ten new members at its recent round of member meetings.

Ben Kay, newsXpress General Manager, personally acquired these new members for newsXpress.  Leveraging his 20 years experience in the newsagency channel and articulating the value of newsXpress membership, Ben was able to show why being part of a value and values based group such as newsXpress was good for business and good for all business stakeholders.

I am thrilled to bring another ten newsagencies to the growing newsXpress community, commented Ben Kay.  Our whole of business help for newsagents and their businesses is what sets us apart and what brings genuine value to the relationship.

The new newsXpress members include a good mix of high street and shopping centre businesses – in capital city and regional locations.

Not resting on these laurels, newsXpress is getting closer to announcing further new members.

newsXpress Gatton Has Fun With State of Origin

origin-gatton.JPGThe team at newsXpress Gatton has been having fun with promoting State of Origin products for the last few weeks.  This simple display in a high traffic location can add valuable dollars to even the smallest sale.

Driving sales basket efficiency is something we talk about often at newsXpress member meetings, providing advice and tips for members to help them consistently achieve above average shopping basket penetration and this, in turn, makes their businesses more valuable.

Promoting the newsXpress Phone Card as a Gift

nxpphone.JPGThe newsXpress Phone Card is proving to be popular as a gift in newsXpress stores.

While the newsXpress Phone Card sells well as a traditional phone card, it also sells well when offered as a very special gift … the gift of conversation between friends and loved ones. This is where engaged newsXpress members are driving extra business – selling the phone card to people who were not looking to purchase a phone card but were shopping for a gift.

By selling personal and often heart-felt connection offered by the phone card, newsXpress members take the offer into a completely different space where there emotion is the gift and the connection.  All of this is done proudly around the newsXpress brand.

hotinkjune11.JPGToday, June 11, 2011, is the start of a new HOT Ink! campaign across the newsXpress retail network. Our stores are offering brand name ink and toner at competitive prices and with an excellent margin. We are supporting the HOT Ink! campaign with catalogues delivered to homes around newsXpress locations, in-store promotion and a range of other engagement.

Thanks to support from major ink and toner brands and our wholesaler suppliers we are able to deliver a tremendously valuable traffic-driving campaign which sets newsXpress and its members apart.

newsXpress has been running ink campaigns since 2005. HOT Ink! continues to evolve and the latest campaign delivers excellent, valuable and differentiating initiatives.

Promoting Optus handsets at newsXpress Fernvale

optus-fernvale.JPGnewsXpress Fernvale promotes their range of Optus handsets out the front of the newsagency with this tactically located display at the entrance to the business in a location passed by customers heading to purchase Golden Casket lottery tickets.

The display unit is provided by Jenlist, a newsXpress preferred supplier.  Jenlist generously supports newsXpress and its members with access to competitive product and valuable insights with which to turn this product than might otherwise be the case.

By selling Optus handsets and SIM cards, newsXpress Fernvale is able to access better commission for Optus mobile recharge business … making the Optus / Jenlist even more valuable for newsXpress Fernvale.

The stand in the photo is just one of a range of Optus product display cabinets available to newsXpress members through Jenlist.  At the other end of the scale is the store within a store concept where a newsXpress store takes on the full range of Optus products and services.  We have newsXpress stores which have taken on this and are enjoying valuable new business as a result.

Mid Year Gift Sale at newsXpress Bairnsdale

gift-sale.JPGnewsXpress Bairnsdale has been running a Mid Year Gift Sale, using newsXpress provided collateral on their street front window to promote this.

The professionally designed collateral is part of the newsXpress Marketing Toolkit launched to newsXpress members earlier this year.  This is the most comprehensive set of marketing tools ever created for newsagents.  It is exclusive to newsXpress.

The team at newsXpress Bairnsdale has made excellent use of the collateral to promote their Mid Year Gift Sale, seizing the opportunity to clear out stock.

Sesame Street Stand Drives Sales

sesame.JPGThe Sesame Street lamp post stand from newsXpress preferred supplier Jasnor is delivering excellent sales results for newsXpress members. It delivers a more creative and flexible way of promoting the wonderful range of Sesame Street plush from Jasnor.

newsXpress stores are using the stand to drive good impulse business, leveraging existing good newsXpress traffic thanks to tactical placement in high traffic locations in store.

Sourcing good products, like this Sesame Street lamp post unit, is part of the newsXpress merchandise story. Helping members make the most of the opportunity is the other part and this is where newsXpress goes beyond the traditional newsagency marketing group.

The photo is from the Sesame Street stand we have at our corporate newsXpress Knox store.  In just two weeks sales have been excellent … great incremental business.  At our Watergardens corporate store we sold, including the stand itself – such is the love of Sesame Street.

newsXpress Branding at the Sales Counter

knox-cdisp.JPGMore newsXpress stores are using LCD customer displays at the sales counter to reinforce store branding.  The same displays are also being used for advertising during sales and promotions between sales.  Using smart customer displays in this way is another advertising and promotion channel for newsXpress and its community of preferred suppliers.

There is good evidence to show that appropriate promotions at the point of sale can drive impulse purchases and extend the shopping basket.
