ALWAYS CHASING GROWTH

newsXpress Castle Towers is never satisfied with their presentation and have completely rebuilt their back wall with great products from Canson Colour, Canson Creative Centre, hiPP, Christina Re, Hallmark, and Ink & Toner.

They have completely changed the front of store as well with small displays on specially built units which allow the passer-by to look further into the shop and maybe be drawn to something not previously seen. This significantly increases the available front of store space so highly sought by suppliers.

newsXpress on Channel Seven

Four newsXpress stores in Central Queensland: Kin Kora, Northside Plaza, Rockhampton & Sun Valley have joined together to produce a
co-operative television advertising strategy.

The following ad will be run for the two weeks leading up to Mother’s Day beginning this Monday, 28th April. While the generic advert featuring the Magazine Range and exclusive Loyalty Club Card; the HOT ink! category; and the Hallmark Greeting Card & Gift products will run at other times.

These adverts were a result of an exceptional collaboration between the stores and newsXpress Marketing department which have produced a professional result which can be utilised in other markets throughout the network.

STEPPING OUTSIDE THE SQUARE TO CULTIVATE NEW REVENUE STREAMS

newsXpress Toowong & Southport Park are continually looking for new ways to cultivate the younger generation and not just relying on the baby boomers or old money revenue providers to build their business.

Along with a lot of other newsXpress stores they have embraced Diddl product to attract new customers and expose their businesses to a new and upcoming customer base and at the same time transforming themselves from a local community newsagent to a retail outlet of choice by continually providing new products.

Freshness and variety by looking for new products and services to bring existing customers and capture a new customer base will increase your store average sale and increase gross margin which is paramount to a flourishing and ongoing retail business.

PERSUING NEW MONEY REVENUE AT SARINA

In a relentless pursuit of increased revenue streams, Mark & Shelley at newsXpress Sarina have moved their newspapers from prime space and converted their newspaper stand into a giftware display.

With huge margins available in giftware and relocating papers further into the store so customers have to walk past all the magazines, giftware and confectionery to purchase a newspaper. As magazines sell down during the day on the new stand they fill the space with giftware which is a great return on space initiative.

Having started it only a week or so ago the strategy is already paying dividends.

A sea of pink for Mother’s Day

Luke Scott and his team at newsXpress Scott’s Lismore have created a wonderful display of Hallmark and Hipp products as part of their Mother’s Day gift range.

They have used their front of store dancefloor to really capture customer’s imagination with a sea of pink. Even though Mother’s day is still a month away sales are considerably up from the same time last year.

Keeping promotions ahead of the pack – Mother’s Day

Victorian newsXpressers, Ballarat and Reservoir have gained a jump on their retail competitors in their respective markets by going out early with Mother’s day promotions. This opportunity has been presented by the earlier than normal completion of Easter celebrations.
Ian & Sue Neal at newsXpress Ballarat have launched the season with a prominent display at the front of the store containing fashionable social stationery, inspirational messages, and other gifts.

UP THE CREEK WITH A PADDLE AND REAPING REWARDS

newsXpress GPO is a convenience based business in Creek St Brisbane. Bradley Dean and the team keep adding new money revenue streams to the business to leverage the huge foot traffic that they have during the week.

By providing inspiration to the customers with gifts from newsXpress approved suppliers Compendium and Jasnor, they have increased the cross-selling opportunities to leverage off the great card sales the store is getting. One helps the other grow and sales are very much on the increase in card and gift within the newsXpress network.

Easter by the Bay

newsXpress Frankston has taken creativity to a new level in their Easter promotion. Introducing several new lines of confectionery and plush they realised they lacked a suitable area to merchandise this product.

However outside of the square thinking by manager Simon Frost quickly saw an opportunity where one previously did not exist. And thus a previously unsightly load bearing pillar was promptly wrapped in gold paper and made a visually stunning display prop.

Variety is the spice of life at newsXpress Eumundi

Manni Ribeiro manager of the quaint store in Central Queensland is never shy to take a chance by promoting several categories at once.

While his HOT ink! is steadily improving (see picture below highlighting the national TV advertisement) , the plush collectible Beanie kids are flying out the door. With over 40 sales in just two weeks at an excellent profit margin this trial is certainly paying its way.

Gifts to the nth degree

Phil & Wendy Banks from newsXpress Glendale in Newcastle completed a shop fit 18 months ago. They introduced a number of innovations at this time, one such was by building a gift wall. This has worked so well that they recently made some more changes to the shop to extend the gift wall.

With margins of over 50% and a great lay buy strategy which allows them to sell gifts in excess of $300 they have created a great new money stream for the store.

WORK YOUR STORE HARD TO REAP REWARDS

At first glance you’ll notice that newsXpress Reservoir is not the flashiest of shops, however, with a new shop fit coming up in the not too distant future Chris, Helen and their team work the shop hard.

They have recently introduced books and a prodigious amount of gifts, and also scented candles to the store, which are working well and bringing new money streams to their business.

newsXpress members don’t rest on their laurels, they work the store hard every day driving sales. Its about day to day operational profit not just waiting for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. New money strategies as well as our soon to be launched Project XLR program, are just the tip of the iceberg at newsXpress.

INNOVATION, INNOVATION, INNOVATION

At the newsXpress laboratory at the Watergardens Town Centre in Taylors Lakes, Ben and the team continue to experiment and innovate with new product, fixtures and fittings. Not only are the learning’s from the Sophie Randall card and gift business being translated into the store with new style gift tables and displays. The Moorish range of product suggested by Bradley Dean from newsXpress GPO in Brisbane has been introduced with great effect. We take learning’s from our interstate members, cross pollinate with one another and implement new money strategies into our network of stores.
Its only through sharing ideas and expressing our views that the group grows. By only having quality members, regular state and cluster meetings combined with the newly introduced One on One Business Development sessions, we get to share. That’s what makes our group strong.

newsXpress Albany Creek Gift category

Giftware sales at newsXpress Albany Creek is a “new money” category,  generated by existing customers (traffic flow) purchasing the beautifully presented giftware in the window area.
To further grow sales, Michael and Wendy had new fixtures made, pushed the existing card fixtures back to create a bigger dance floor, and sales have accelerated. Customers appreciate the extra “space” in which to browse the new gift ranges.
