newsXpress supports RSPCA Happy Tails Day

newsXpress is proud to be supporting the RSPCA Happy Tails Day again.  This year, we are sponsoring with Big W, Bendigo Bank, Peter Alexander and Hill’s.

rspca-happy-tails.jpg

All newsXpress stores are raising funds for this worthy cause. Each year, the RSPCA in Australia cares for around 154,000 stray, injured and abandoned animals and investigates more than 47,000 complaints of cruelty and neglect.

The RSPCA receives less than 3% government funding and as a charity, the funds raised through Happy Tails Day helps us continue our vital work.

We are thrilled that newsXpress members and their customers are supporting this important initiative.

Raising money for kids doing it tough

dads-nuts-2010.JPGnewsXpress is proud to be raising money for the Lighthouse Foundation again this year from the sale of the popular Dad’s Nuts Bags from Morish.  We created the Dad’s Nuts concept several years ago and are thrilled to have Morish working with us once again.

We have been with Lighthouse for a couple of years.  They provide homes and programs to help young people experiencing difficult time to develop healthy life skills, complete their education and find work.  Money from every Dad’s Nuts sales goes to their important work.

Helping to raise funds for breast cancer research

newsXpress received a wonderful note from Annette Sym, author of the Symply Too Good cookbooks, thanking us for our support of her efforts to raise money for breast cancer reseatch.

Here is what Annette had to say:

Thank you and NewsXpress so much for providing us with your fabulous NewsXpress black enviro bags, caps and water bottles for our Symply Food, Symply Fit, Symply Pink breast cancer fundraising event on the 22nd June 2010. The first 100 people who booked to attend our event received their wonderful gift bags on the night, which contained a fantastic array of donated goodies including your caps and water bottles, and we could see that everyone was absolutely thrilled to receive them. We were also able to auction one of the gift bags on the night, which generated further fundraising. Thank you for being so generous and helping to make it such a special night – we greatly appreciate it – and a big thank you from Annette for all your support.

Please find attached our Sponsor’s Thank You page which was given to all 200 attendees, as well as being shown on our large presentation screen during the night.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that the fundraising goal set out in December 2009 has officially been reached! Due to all the amazing people who volunteered their help, time and resources we have raised over $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. As you are aware our first event, held in February 2010, was the Train Like a Girl Breast Cancer Challenge and then last week, Symply Food, Symply Fit, Symply Pink! The two events combined have raised a total of:

$10, 510.50 !!!

Without the spirit and generosity of our community, this goal would never have been achieved.

Finally, on behalf of Jen’s sister Michelle and family – THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

Thank you for helping us to make a difference

Lest we forget

Across Australia, newsXpress businesses, their owners, employees and connected families take time today to remember the Anzacs and indeed all who have served this great country of ours.

We are privileged in our businesses to connect with local communities in many personal ways. The stories we have heard of bravery and challenges flowing from those who have put their lives on the line for Australia touch our hearts.

So, today, we salute, remember and give thanks for the fallen and all who have served.

Lest we forget.

newsXpress Albany (WA) respects Anzac Day

anzac-day-014.jpgThe team at newsXpress Albany in Western Australia has created an excellent window display respecting Anzac Day.  It is an excellent example of connecting with the local community around a solemn occasion. Their use of the lyrics of the song And the band played Waltzing Matilda is inspirational.  Click here to hear the song.

The Anzac Day display covers several windows – beyond the one shown in the photo to the left.  Everyone involved at newsXpress Albany ought to be proud of what they have created.

Appreciation from Lighthouse Foundation

newsxpress-lighthouse.JPGnewsXpress received heartfelt appreciation from the Lighthouse Foundation last week for the funds we raised in our Father’s Day campaign last year.  In a newsXpress exclusive promotion, every pack of Dad’s Nuts bags from Morish Nuts raised funds for Lighthouse.  This is another part of our commitment to social responsibility – connecting newsXpress and member businesses with community organisations.

newsXpress thanks all members for participating in this promotion and helping to make a difference to the work Lighthouse dows in the community.

Supporting charity and helping the environment

cartridge_rescue_newsxpress.JPGnewsXpress is proud to proactively support the Cartridge Rescue TM service which recycles used printer cartridges.

Each of our stores has a Cartridge Rescue TM box into which customers can drop used cartridges.  They are reused and not chipped for landfill.  This is a great story for the environment.

The folks behind Cartridge Rescue TM used funds raised from the program to financially support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.  This is a great story for social responsibility.

newsXpress is proud to have been connected with this service for years and is please to help the community recycle used printer cartridges.

Supporting Movember

rob_henderson_movember.JPGRob Henderson, our National Merchandise Manager, is supporting Movember with his Mo. Rob is doing this in support of The Eastfield cricket club with whom he plays and to raise awareness of prostate cancer during November. The majority of players are growing or have grown facial hair to raise the awareness of the campaign.

Celebrating Pink Ribbon Day at newsXpress Sarina

_2-023.jpgShelley Petersen and the team at newsXpress Sarina created a wonderful display of pink giftware  in support of Pink Ribbon Day. 50% of sales from all pink (coloured) products will be donated to the Australian Breast Cancer Foundation. The display will be up for a week.

This is a wonderful local initiative at newsXpress Sarina.  It shows the business as being socially concerned and demonstrating this in a creative way.  They make newsXpress proud.

The initiative is further evidence of why newsXpress Sarina deserves their award of 2009 Queensland Newsagent of the Year.

New reusable fashion shopping bag from newsXpress

nxp_bag.JPGnewsXpress has launched a re-usable fashion black bag that will sit comfortably alongside similar items at major retailers. This bag can be used for items commonly sold in newsXpress locations: newspapers, magazines, ink, cards, gifts.  The quality bag is versatile and fashionable.  We are certain customers will use the new bag in everyday situations, increasing newsXpress branding in the community.  It is an excellent branding investment.  This new bag will supersede the red bag currently in the newsXpress range.

Supporting the Lighthouse Foundation

nx_conf09_lighthouse.JPGIn the spirit of putting something back into the community, newsXpress ran a silent auction during our Gala Awards Dinner on Thursday evening.  We raised $5,000 for the Lighthouse Foundation, an organisation which provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people.

Suppliers and some newsXpress staff generously provided items for auction and the entire proceeds go to Lighthouse.  We had watches, wine, a laptop, a gourmet hamper, chocolates and a giant Hallmark Forever Friends bear.

newsXpress is committed to supporting the community corporately and at the store level – it is the community which provides our future.

In addition to supporting Lighthouse at the Awards Dinner and with our Father’s Day promotion, we have also supported the SIDS Red Nose Day campaign as well as the RSPCA Happy Tails campaign.

We are grateful to everyone who bid of Thursday night for the items up for grabs.

newsXpress has partnered with the RSPCA to support their national charity this October. Happy Tails Day is one of the RSPCA’s major fund raising events for the year and we are proud that this national organisation has aligned themselves with newsXpress exclusively as a newsagent partner. In addition to selling fund raising product, newsXpress is participating through several initiatives to raise the profice of the work of the RSPCA.  A Happy Tails Day banner also features on our newsXpress website and marketing collateral.
